OGA Releases Decommissioning Strategy Report to Reduce Decom Costs
The UK Oil and Gas Authority has released a new report, which aims to reduce the cost of decommissioning in the North Sea.
The Decommissioning Strategy, in collaboration with industry, is the first of a number of strategies that aim to drive a new way of working across the oil and gas lifecycle. Each strategy will be followed by an accompanying delivery program, providing further direction and detail on the implementation of the strategy.
OGA’s Decommissioning Strategy has three main priorities:
- Cost certainty and reduction
- Decommissioning delivery capability
- Decommissioning scope, guidance, and stakeholder engagement
The strategy is designed to ensure the industry explores all viable options for infrastructure use prior to decommissioning and that decommissioning is executed in the most cost effective way without prejudice to, and in balance with, the maximization of value from economically recoverable reserves.
