Inpex Spuds Exploration Well Off Japan's Shimane, Yamaguchi Prefectures
Inpex Corp. commenced drilling Sunday an exploration well located around 81 to 87 miles (130 to 140 kilometers) offshore Shimane and Yamaguchi prefectures in Japan, the company said in a press release Tuesday.
The drilling operations are part of a project commissioned by the Agency of Natural Resources and Energy of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for the former's “Heisei 26~28 Domestic Offshore Drilling Program in Japan” which was announced July 30, 2015.
When drilling is completed in August, Inpex will assess the presence of hydrocarbon deposits in the area by conducting a detailed analysis and evaluation of data obtained through the exploratory drilling.
