Dresser-Rand Wins Equipment Contract for Dolphin Gas Project

Dresser-Rand has been selected to provide DATUM centrifugal compression technology to Rolls-Royce Systems Ltd as part of the nearly $3.5 billion Dolphin Gas Project in the Middle East. The contract to D-R is valued at more than $20 million.

Six D-R DATUM units will be used with mechanical drive industrial Trent dry low emission gas turbines manufactured and packaged by Rolls-Royce. When installed, the DATUM compressors will help provide two billion cubic feet of natural gas a day through a 400-kilometer underwater pipeline from Ras Laffan, Qatar to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

“The high efficiency of the DATUM compressor and its proven track record of success in challenging pipeline applications make it uniquely suited to the Dolphin project,” said Brad Dickson, executive vice president, new equipment/worldwide at Dresser-Rand. “We’re pleased to team up with Rolls-Royce on a project that will be so vital to delivering clean fuels in the region for the next 25 years.”

The DATUM compressors will be manufactured at the D-R facility in Olean, New York, and will undergo extensive full-load testing at the company’s world-class test facility here for delivery mid-year 2005.
