Five Things to Do at OTC 2017
You'll encounter innovation at every turn as you venture throughout Houston's NRG Park! OTC organizers have made it convenient for you to learn about new and improved technologies for myriad offshore activities in a number of settings. Attend a topical/industry breakfast or luncheon. Take an OTC training course. Discuss trends with your offshore industry peers at networking events. Of course, you won't get the full effect unless you check out the hundreds of indoor and outdoor exhibitor displays at NRG Center, NRG Arena and OTC Parkway!
There have been some signs in recent months that offshore activity is picking up, but the sector's job market remains challenging. OTC wants to offer some guidance via its "Reaching Out and Reaching Up: Networking in the Downturn" event, scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 1 in Room 202 on Level 2 of the NRG Center. The free event, now in its second year, will feature panel and round table discussions on topics such as:
- Developing a plan to find your next job
- Building your professional reputation via social media and networking
- Tips for working with a recruiter
- Resume and interviewing advice
After a long day of sitting through technical sessions or navigating the exhibit spaces at NRG Park, enjoying some peanuts and Cracker Jack with your fellow OTC attendees might be a great way to wind down. Head downtown to Minute Maid Park Tuesday, May 2 to cheer on the hometown Houston Astros as they host in-state American League West rival Texas Rangers. You can purchase OTC group tickets for the 7:10 p.m. game via the Astros' website (the password is "OTC").
By the time Friday, May 5 rolls around, many OTC attendees will have headed back to work or left town for the drive or flight home. But not all of them. A group of offshore industry C-suite and technology execs, mid-level technical practitioners and others will be at Rice University's Jones School of Business for d5 2017: The Next Big Thing. The d5 event will feature prominent speakers from outside the oil and gas industry who will offer their unique insights and lead group discussions about disruptive technologies. OTC organizers are limiting attendance at the 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. event to 200.
