PEPANZ Highlights Key Themes for 2016 New Zealand Petroleum Conference

The Petroleum Exploration & Production Association of New Zealand (PEPANZ) revealed that the potential of the New Zealand oil and gas industry and how it can adapt to the constantly changing global energy environment will be two of the key themes of the 2016 New Zealand Petroleum Conference, the association said in a press release Friday.

The conference also includes the launch of the Government’s annual Block Offer – the exclusive tender for petroleum exploration permits in New Zealand.

Petroleum Exploration and Production Association Chief Executive Cameron Madgwick is delighted to have attracted several international speakers to the conference who will discuss the global energy, economic and political forces that are shaping the environment we work in.

“We know that New Zealand is a great place for the oil and gas industry to do business,” Madgwick said.

“New Zealand has a reputation for providing promising opportunities, high prospectivity, a sound fiscal environment and low sovereign risk. This has been reflected in the interest in the bid process for recent Block Offer rounds.

“But at PEPANZ we also know that the current low-price oil environment, concerns over climate change, responding the world’s energy demand and global political insecurity affects our ability to do business.

“Dr Claire Spencer from Chatham House in London and Suzannah Toulmin from Wood Mackenzie in Singapore are the ideal industry experts to discuss the current political and economic environment and stimulate discussion on how we can adapt to the ever-changing global market place”

The 2016 New Zealand Petroleum Conference will also showcase the technical insights and industry leading best-practice that underpins the unique opportunities our oil and gas sector offers. In addition to the launch of Block Offer 2016 and keynote addresses, the conference will also feature three concurrent streams:

  • Assessment & Exploration (geoscience)
  • Exploration & Production (technology and engineering); and
  • Operations (economics, community and regulatory)

Madgwick said within these streams there will be wide-ranging discussions on the Post-Paris climate change environment and how the world’s energy demands can be met in that context.

Early-bird registration are still open for the conference. If you register before Dec. 7 you will receive discounts up to 40 percent. To register visit
