Heerema Secures Services Contract for Culzean

Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) announced late Wednesday that it has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract, by Maersk Oil North Sea UK Limited, for the Culzean development in the North Sea.

As part of the contract, HFG will work on jackets for a central processing facility platform and a utility and living quarter platform on the Culzean field. This is the second contract HFG has won for the Culzean project, with the first being awarded in October 2014 for the procurement and construction of a wellhead platform jacket, wellhead access deck and access ways.

Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven, chief executive officer of HFG, commented in a company statement:

“We are very pleased that we have been able to secure this second contract for the Culzean field development. It puts us in the position to continue to build on the strong and pleasant relationship with Maersk Oil North Sea UK. For the duration of the work on the jackets in the UK we expect to support 250 jobs for the local Hartlepool community including our Heerema Hartlepool yard.”

On August 31, 2015 Maersk Oil announced that Culzean project had been approved for development. More than $4 billion is expected to be invested in the project, which will support an estimated 6,000 UK jobs and over 400 jobs directly connected to the field. Discovered in 2008 by Maersk Oil and its partners, the Culzean gas condensate discovery is a high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) field that has resources estimated to produce enough gas to meet five percent of total UK demand when it hits peak production in 2020/2021.
