AWE Updates on Drilling at Drover-1 Well in EP 455 in Perth Basin

AWE Limited, as Operator of Exploration Permit 455 in the Perth Basin, Western Australia, reported Tuesday that as at 06:00 hours (6:00am) AWST today the Drover-1 exploration well was drilling ahead at a measured depth of 6,791 feet (2,070 meters) in an 8.5 inch hole.

Two sections of core were cut from 5,570 feet (1,698 meters) to 5,643 feet (1,720 meters), recovering a total of 70.5 feet (21.5 meters) of the Kockatea Shale formation.

The 8.5 inch hole will be drilled to a planned total depth of 7,874 feet (2,400 meters) to evaluate the deeper objectives comprising the Carynginia Shale formations, the Irwin River Coal Measures and the High Cliff Sandstone.

The Drover-1 exploration well is located on pastoral land in the Shire of Coorow, approximately 11.2 miles (18 kilometers) southeast of Green Head and 136.7 miles (220 kilometers) north of Perth. Drover-1 is a vertical exploration well designed to test the unconventional gas potential in the southern area of AWE’s Perth Basin acreage. Core samples taken from the well will be sent for analysis before determining the next phase of activity.
