Feds Seek to Hike LNG Facility User Fees

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) announced a proposed 5-percent increase July 3 to the user fee rates that it levies on operators of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

According to PHMSA's Federal Register notice published just before the recent holiday weekend, the fee increases for five types of LNG facilities (based on storage capacity ranges) are needed to help cover shortfalls in federal gas pipeline safety funding. The LNG facility fee hikes would be phased in over 3 years beginning in 2015, PHMSA stated.

PHMSA is accepting written comments on the proposal until Sept. 2 at the E-Gov website. Comments should reference Docket No. PHMSA-2014-0051.
