Rice's Energy and Environment Initiative: Focusing on the Future

Article title
Rice's university-wide initiative uses an interdisciplinary approach in meeting energy's challenges.

In recognition of the growing importance of the energy industry to economic growth and the security of the country, Houston-based Rice University is continuing to develop its broad, university-wide Energy and Environment Initiative.

The thrust of the initiative is simple, and can be distilled to three major objectives, Charles McConnell, executive director of the initiative, told Rigzone:

  • To ensure the relevancy and the impact of the energy industry on society, and on the university
  • To embrace fossil fuels by driving energy sustainability and environmental responsibility
  • To grow the university’s independent connections with the energy industry, and to be active in growing Rice’s portfolio of energy programs
