VARD Clinches $133M Contract to Build OCAH Vessel for Rem Offshore

Singapore-listed Vard Holdings Limited (VARD), one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels, reported Wednesday that it has secured a contract for the design and construction of one Offshore Construction and Anchor Handling Vessel for Rem Offshore. The contract value is approximately $133.28 million (NOK 800 million).

The vessel will be of VARD 2 06 design, recently developed by Vard Design in Ålesund, Norway. Delivery is scheduled from Vard Brattvaag in Norway in 1Q 2016. The hull of the vessel will be delivered from Vard Tulcea in Romania.

The new vessel is especially designed to perform advanced operations with the use of A-frame and winch system in parallel with an active heave compensated offshore crane with more than 9,842 foot (3,000 meter) range on the main hook. The crane will have a capacity of 150 ton. With a bollard pull of approximately 400 ton, this vessel will be able to meet demanding operations in the deep water segment. The vessel will have accommodation for 90 persons including several offices and work stations for managing complex and large projects in the world-wide market.

With ICE 1-B and the winterization notation, the vessel is arranged for operations in winterized zones, further the vessel will be outfitted with a Launch and Recovery System for a ROV installation.

Rem Offshore is a Norwegian shipping company with its main focus on remote underwater operations, anchor handling- and platform supply services, run from the office in Fosnavaag, municipality of Heroy. Rem Offshore has approximately 500 employees, with 18 vessels in operation.
