Drydocks Signs Deal to Build 2 Gusto-Design Jackups for Malta Oil & Gas

Drydocks World, a Dubai-based service provider to the maritime, oil & gas and energy sectors, announced Monday that the firm has signed an agreement with Malta Oil & Gas Ltd. to build two new Gusto MSC CJ54-X135-A design jackups.

Each of these jackups, measuring 249 feet by 249 feet (76 meters by 76 meters) with a leg length of 592 feet (180.6 meters), can operate in water depths up to 450 feet. The jackup consists of a triangular shaped hull with three open truss legs, rack and pinion type elevating systems and leg-to-hull fixation systems.

In addition, each jackup, equipped to drill HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) wells and has a retractable X-Y type cantilever carrying the drilling derrick, can accommodate 150 persons. A heli-deck suitable for the use of a S61N or S92 helicopter is also available on each of the jackups.

“There is a great demand for new offshore drilling rigs in the rapidly evolving upstream oil & gas sector. Our strategy to contribute to the growth of this sector has paid rich dividends. We are delighted to have made definite inroads into sophisticated engineering and construction to support this sector. Increasingly sophisticated and highly specialized drilling rigs are being used for deepwater exploration and development and this is the latest requirement of the sector and we are fully geared to meet the increasing demand,” Khamis Juma Buamim, chairman of Drydocks World & Maritime World said in the press release.
