ONGC Makes Four Discoveries in India in 3Q of FY2014

India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) reported that it has made four new discoveries, comprising three onshore and one offshore, in the third quarter of fiscal year 2013-2014 ending December, according to financial results released by the company Friday.

The sole offshore discovery is at the MBOS51NAA#1 (NELP Block MB-OSN-2005/1) in India's western offshore basin. The exploratory well, drilled to a depth of 11,105 feet (3,385 meters), is the second discovery in this block after MBOS51NBA#1. These discoveries, which are near to the C-37/ C-39, B-9 areas, will enhance the overall gas potential of the area.

"Interval 8,364 to 8,382 feet (2,549.5 to 2,555 meters) in Tertiary Daman formation on testing through produced gas at 8.83 MMcf/d (250,107 cubic meters per day) and condensate at 255 barrels per day through 0.375 inch choke. Another interval 8,252 to 8,247 feet (2,515.5 to 2,526.5 meters) also in Tertiary Daman formation on testing through produced gas at 7.4 MMcf/d (209,734 cubic meters per day) and condensate at 180 barrels/day through 0.375 inch choke", ONGC said in the press release.

The first onshore discovery was made at Mandapetta South # 1 exploratory well in Godavari Onland PML of KG Onshore basin in Andhra Pradesh state. The well was drilled to a depth of 9,842 feet (3,000 meters).

"Interval 7,785 to 7,824 feet (2,373 to 2,385 meters) in Golapalli Formation of Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous age on 'hydro-fracturing' flowed gas at 1.14 MMcf/d (32,472 cubic meters per day) through 0.23 inch (6 millimeter) bean ... This discovery south of main Mandapetta field indicates at possible production potential of the tight reservoirs found in the area through hydro-fracturing," the Indian oil and gas firm added.

The second onshore discovery, made at exploratory well SB#300 (SBCG) in Geratpur PML, Western onshore basin in Gujarat state, was drilled to a depth of 6,578 feet (2,005 meters).
