Technip Wins New Award for Asgard Subsea Compression Project
French oilfield services supplier Technip reported Tuesday that Statoil has awarded it a contract for intervention services on subsea compression stations at the Asgard field in the Norwegian Sea.
The Asgard subsea gas compression project is the first of its kind. It uses compression technology to help the gas gain sufficient additional pressure for it to be transported through the pipeline to the platform. The benefit of the technology is that it helps to boost the recovery factor and producing life for the gas field.
The project awarded to Technip is call-off of options under an existing marine operations contract for the Asgard subsea compression project. This will see an extension of both the dedicated vessel and equipment, developed for the current contract, with the new contract covering the use of the vessel for other inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) work and construction work.
Technip's operating center in Stavanger, Norway, will manage the contract, which will begin in 2015.
Odd Strømsnes, Technip's managing director for it Norwegian operation, commented in a company statement:
"The Asgard Subsea Compression project is one of the key subsea technology projects currently undertaken in the North Sea-Canada Region. This award strategically positions us to meet future industry requirements for heavy IMR related work, requiring ability to handle heavier loads in harsh environments. We are indeed looking forward to taking on this challenge together with Statoil."
