Poland's PGNiG Appoints Mariusz Zawisza as CEO

WARSAW, Dec 30 (Reuters) – Poland's PGNiG appointed Mariusz Zawisza, former head of a subsidiary at state-owned group PGE, as its new chief executive officer, the state-controlled gas monopoly said on Monday.

PGNiG's former CEO Grazyna Piotrowska-Oliwa was fired at the end of April after she failed to stop a joint venture with Russia's Gazprom from opening the way for a new Russian pipeline cutting out Poland's ally Ukraine.

In June the company said it ended the recruitment process for a new chief executive, leaving the position vacant for the time being. The company appointed Jerzy Kurella, former deputy head at state bank BGK, as vice president responsible for trade.

Kurella will now serve as PGNiG's deputy head, with Jaroslaw Bauc the group's chief financial officer. Bauc was Poland's finance minister more than 10 years ago and later the chief executive officer at mobile operator Polkomtel.
