Exploring Innovations In Wells Technology
Exploring innovations in wells technology is the topic of the Rigzone webinar on Tuesday, November 5. During a 60-minute live broadcast, Dru Cahill, Shell Global Wells Skill pool Manager, and Hal Edwards, Global Deepwater Drilling Advisor at Shell, will present some of Shell’s biggest deep water and onshore projects to date and outline how innovative technologies and approaches allow Shell to responsibly go after energy reserves that previously appeared out of reach.
“As we move into ever deeper waters and take on more challenging projects, and as societal expectations of our industry continue to rise, innovation is ever more important,” said Jaime Hill, Global Channels Projects Advisor, about the context for the session.
Dru and Hal will give interesting examples of how groundbreaking developments by Shell have pushed and keep pushing the technological boundaries further and also make operations safer.
The presentation will highlight Shell developments in the safety space like a device using explosives to create an engineered collapse of casing which basically would reduce or even stop the flow of hydrocarbons. The presenters will also give an insight into activities where Shell is collaborating with other players in the industry in the area of incident response such as the Marine Well Containment Company and the Subsea Well Response Project, as well as a project with National Oilwell Varco and Noble that aims to automate well control.
Another focus area will be Shell technology that improves drilling, completions and well intervention performance. Real-time operating and performance optimization centers, automation and well manufacturing concepts will be interesting topics to look at.
The presentation will be followed by a moderated panel discussion and Q&A with the online audience. One of the panelists is Richard G. “Dick” Ghiselin, Senior Associate at Qittitut Consulting, a business growth strategy and marketing consultancy with focus on the international energy industry.
The host of the webinar, Rigzone, is an industry and careers portal for upstream, exploration and production. Participants can ask questions about life at Shell and technology and innovations in the Wells arena.
The webinar is on Tuesday, November 5 at 10:00 AM CST (4PM GMT). People who are interested in attending can sign up here.
