JKX Successfully Completes 10-Stage Frac in Ukraine
Eastern Europe-focused JKX Oil & Gas reported Wednesday that it has successfully completed a 10-stage frac in well R-103 at Rudenkovskoye, Ukraine and that the frac crew and equipment are now being demobilized.
JKX said that after adding an extra frac interval at Stage 8 of the multi-frac program, Stage 8 "turned out to be a textbook operation with all plug setting, perforating, mini-frac and main-frac operations performing to plan".
Total proppant injected was 123 tons, with the pump rate achieving the equivalent of 45,000 barrels per day with a maximum pump pressure of 9,750 pounds per square inch (psi).
Stage 9 was more difficult, said JKX, with higher pressures encountered during the mini-frac, although 34,000 barrels per day could be achieved with a pump pressure of up to 11,535 psi.
Stage 10 saw the pumps unable to achieve breakdown, even with a pump pressure of 11,960 psi. Consequently, this final frac stage was abandoned.
JKX added that the well will continue to be monitored carefully and that it anticipates that stabilized gas flow and an indication of the well's performance capability will be evident by the end of October.
JKX Chief Executive Dr Paul Davies commented in a company statement:
"We are very pleased to have successfully completed this 10 stage frac operation in Ukraine. Conditions have been difficult but overall the execution has been better than anticipated. Seven of the frac stages have achieved or exceeded design predictions, two were below expectations and only one was unsuccessful.
"The next few weeks of clean-up and flow stabilization will be critical and we are encouraged that the well is already flowing gas to surface together with frac fluids."
