SKKMigas Chairman Rudi Rubiandini Arrested on Graft Charge

Indonesia's Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Special Business Activities (SKKMigas) confirmed that Chairman Rudi Rubiandini has been arrested by the country's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Tuesday night on a graft charge, state-owned Antara news agency reported Wednesday.

SKKMigas spokesman Elan Biantorokepada said he was shocked by the news of Rudi Rubiandini's arrest by the KPK, according to Antara.

Meanwhile, KPK spokesman Johan Budi told two local television stations Wednesday that Rudi Rubiandini was arrested after being caught receiving a bribe, amounting to $700,000, at his house in Jakarta from two men suspected to work for Kernel Oil. All three men are being detained for questioning at the KPK office.

KPK's Johan Budi said the agency made the arrests after receiving report of a suspicious deal involving Kernel Oil a few days earlier.

Rudi Rubiandini, a former Indonesian deputy minister for energy and mineral resource, was appointed SKKMigas Chairman early this year.
