JKX Makes Progress with Ukraine Frac
Eastern Europe-focused JKX Oil & Gas reported Wednesday that it has made headway with its hydraulic fracturing program at its R-103 well in Ukraine. The firm said it successfully completed three out of nine stages of the frac.
An interim flock back has been performed for a preliminary clean-up and work has now begun on stages four to six of the program. Each stage covers approximately 325 feet of the sub-horizontal 0.62-mile reservoir section.
The firm reported that Stage 1, which represented the deepest and poorest lithology section, saw all phases of the frac go smoothly. The maximum pump rate achieved here was 34,000 barrels per day.
Stage 2 was a more difficult operation, but here JKX managed to pump at a rate of 47,000 barrels per day. Stage 3 was executed according to plan, with 35,000 barrels per day achieved.
The final frac is scheduled to be completed by the end of August, with initial results expected by the end of the third quarter.
JKX Chief Executive Dr Paul Davies commented in a statement:
"Operationally this complex program has made very good progress and we now have three fracs completed successfully. We are seeing variability in the rock properties as we progress along the well bore, and we may encounter sections where the pump pressure to frac the rock exceeds the safe working limit of the equipment.
"We have, therefore mobilized additional equipment which should help us partially overcome the high break-down pressures encountered. I look forward to reporting progress with the next three stages of the program."
