Encana Names Former BP Exec as President, CEO
Calgary-based Encana Corporation has named Doug Suttles, formerly chief operating officer of BP Exploration & Production, as Encana's new president and chief executive officer.
"After an extensive global search, Doug stood out as the ideal candidate to lead Encana into its next phase of growth and development," said Clayton Woitas, director and designated future chairman of the board, in a statement Tuesday.
Woitas has served as interim president and CEO since Eresman's departure.
Suttles retired from his role as chief operating officer at BP's U.S. exploration and production division in January 2011 after more than 22 years at the company.
"Encana has a reputation for innovation and excellence, a tremendous set of assets, and dedicated employees that I am honored to be a part of," said Suttles in a statement Tuesday. "Over the coming months, I look forward to working with the entire organization as we shape a strategy and plan that will grow shareholder value and unlock Encana's full potential."
Former Encana President and Chief Executive Randall K. Eresman retired from the company in January of this year, Dow Jones Newswires reported. Eresman had been with the company for about 35 years.
"Now is the right time for me to step down and to turn over leadership of Encana to someone with the focus, drive and commitment to complete the transition" to a company with a more balanced commodity portfolio, Eresman said in a Jan. 11 statement.
