UK Safety Awards Now Open for Nominations

Trade body Oil & Gas UK announced Monday that it has launched a new prize category in its annual UK Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards.

This year will see a new prize to honor workforce engagement and will be awarded to a worksite or installation that has actively embraced the concept of better engagement with its staff, said Oil & Gas UK.

Oil & Gas UK also confirmed that the Ideas in Safety prize will return in 2013. This involves a cash prize of $8,150 (GBP 5,000) for an individual, or team, that comes up an original idea to prevent hydrocarbon gas leaks.

Other prizes include safety leadership awards for quick thinking individuals who have prevented incidents and companies that have put in place innovative safety processes and techniques.

Oil & Gas UK said that nominations close March 1. The awards ceremony, held in collaboration with Step Change in Safety, will take place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre April 24.

Step Change in Safety Team Leader Les Linklater commented in a statement:

"We are keen to reward great ideas and to learn from our workforce, which is why the Ideas in Safety prize will once again go to an individual or a team who has come up with a bright idea to prevent hydrocarbon gas leaks. Even if it's just a concept – they could see their idea developed."
