Schlumberger Acquires GeoKnowledge
Schlumberger announced it has acquired GeoKnowledge, a Norwegian-based software company specialized in delivering exploration decision-support solutions for the oil and gas industry.
GeoKnowledge supplies the industry-leading GeoX software suite for exploration prospect risk, resource and value assessment, and is the corporate standard for more than 100 oil and gas companies worldwide.
"The combination of GeoX software with the Petrel E&P software platform will enable us to provide our customers with fully integrated solutions for assessment of exploration risk and probabilistic resource evaluations," said Tony Bowman, president, Schlumberger Information Solutions. "GeoKnowledge is highly respected in the industry, and their decision-centric technology and expertise complements our model-centric Petrel-based evaluations of exploration risk and uncertainty."
"As a Schlumberger company, we will be able to further the mainstream adoption of our software, expand our client services infrastructure and continue to develop advanced exploration solutions by leveraging Schlumberger technology and development expertise," said Dr. Charles Stabell, founder and chairman, GeoKnowledge.
Core software product development will continue to be in Oslo, Norway, where most of the 30 GeoKnowledge employees are based. The company also has offices in Houston, Texas, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
