Tuesday, March 30, 2004
Rowan Companies reports that the remains of eight passengers and two crew members have been recovered from the crash of a Sikorsky S-76 helicopter operated by its subsidiary company, Era Aviation, Inc. This accounts for all persons who were aboard the helicopter when it disappeared in the Gulf of Mexico on March 23, 2004.
The bulk of the helicopter wreckage has been retrieved and will be transported to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) team investigating the accident is located. The cockpit voice recorder has been recovered and is being analyzed by the NTSB. Era is cooperating fully with the NTSB in their efforts to determine the cause of the accident.
Danny McNease, Rowan's President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "We are extremely saddened by this tragic loss and extend our profound sympathy to all of the families, co-workers, and friends touched by this loss of life. Era is using every means available to assist the NTSB in determining what occurred."
