Kerr-McGee Finalist for MMS SAFE Award

Kerr-McGee Corp. is a finalist for the coveted Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE), presented by the U.S. Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) to oil and gas operators that achieve excellence in safety and care for the environment in operations in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) of the Gulf of Mexico. Kerr-McGee has been a finalist in the high activity category for seven of the past eight years, winning the award three of those years -- 1996, 1997 and 2000.

"The MMS's recognition of our safety and environmental achievements is a credit to the outstanding efforts of our employees and contractors in the Gulf of Mexico region," said Dave Hager, Kerr-McGee senior vice president responsible for oil and gas exploration and production. "Kerr-McGee leverages its expertise and technology to protect people and the environment at all of our operations worldwide."

Established in 1983, the SAFE Awards recognize and honor companies that make concerted efforts to train and motivate their employees to conduct offshore operations in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Each year, the MMS selects finalists in four categories: high activity oil and gas operators; moderate activity oil and gas operators; drilling companies; and production contractors. The high activity category includes companies that produce at least 10 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per year and operate at least 1,000 in-service components during the year. A moderate activity company produces at least one million BOE per year, operating at least 100 in-service components.

Finalists will be honored and winners will be announced at an awards luncheon on April 27 at the Houston Intercontinental Hotel.
