North Sea-focused Xcite Energy announced Tuesday that its 9/3b-7 well on the Bentley field has reached target depth of 9,377 feet.
Xcite reported that a reservoir section in excess of 2,200 feet has been penetrated, with 100-percent net pay, and sand screens have been run successfully. The remainder of the planned operations, including drilling of the second reservoir section, installation of the down-hole pump and commissioning of the processing equipment will now be undertaken prior to the production test starting.
According to a spokesman for the company, results should not be expected from the well until "the back end of the summer".
Xcite added that two six-inch export pipelines from the Rowan Norway (400' ILC) jackup rig have been successfully installed, while the installation vessel – the Polar Prince – has been released.
According to Xcite, Bentley is one of the largest undeveloped fields in the North Sea, containing some 550 million standard tank barrels in place of 10 to 11-degree API heavy oil. The firm has a 100-percent interest in the field, which is located in block 9/3b of the UK North Sea.
