Burlington Says Startup of Rivers Field Delayed

Natural gas production from the Rivers field in the Irish Sea is not expected to start for another few weeks. This is approximately one month later than the originally scheduled start date. The commissioning process is underway and sweet gas used to test the system would be introduced in the next few weeks.

The sour gas that Rivers produces will be introduced sometime after that, well past the early February target given last November. Full operation will depend on the timing of maintenance expected at the North Morecambe complex, where the gas will be processed.

Output from the field is expected to be two to three million cubic meters per day. The North Morecambe platform, opened in 1994, can flow up to 14.4 million cubic meters a day, including gas from the neighboring Millom and Dalton fields, which are owned by Burlington but operated by Centrica.
