EPL to Receive ''SAFE'' Award from MMS

Energy Partners, Ltd. has been named a recipient of the 2003 Safety Award For Excellence (SAFE) from the Minerals Management Service (MMS), New Orleans District. This award is given annually to recognize companies that expend extra effort and achieve superior results in conducting operations in a safe and pollution free manner. EPL is receiving the award for Production Operations in the category of Moderate Activity Operators. The area cited by the award is EPL's South Pass 27 Field, known as East Bay. The MMS is a division of the U.S. Department of the Interior that regulates and oversees oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

East Bay was first discovered in 1949 by Shell. EPL acquired the East Bay field from Ocean Energy and assumed operatorship in April 2000. Since that time, the Company has instituted a field optimization program that has lowered operating expense and has also undertaken a successful exploratory drilling program, all the while focusing on maintaining the highest safety standards. This is the first time this field has received a SAFE award, and the first time EPL has received a SAFE award. EPL, founded in 1998, is the youngest company to receive this recognition from the MMS New Orleans District office.

Richard A. Bachmann, EPL's Founder, Chairman, President, and CEO remarked, "We are extremely proud to be named recipient of this highly respected award. I applaud our operations and production staff not just for their hard work and dedication but also for their commitment to high standards. It is very encouraging when an award from a regulatory agency, like the SAFE award from the MMS, recognizes the success of our efforts to meet the highest standards in environmental, health, and safety matters on a day-to-day basis."

The award presentation is planned for April 7, 2004 at EPL's East Bay Central Facility in south Louisiana.
