Brazil Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Petrobras Directors

A court in Rio de Janeiro state has issued an arrest warrant for two top directors at Petrobras, the company's press department said Tuesday.

A justice department official went to the state-owned company's headquarters earlier Tuesday to serve the warrant, but Exploration and Production director Gilherme Estrella and Engineering director Renato Duque weren't in their offices, a spokeswoman said.

"Petrobras's legal department is taking the necessary measures to appeal the prison warrants," the spokeswoman said.

The warrant was granted after Petrobras didn't respect the terms of a court injunction ordering Petrobras to allow local oil exploration company Maritima Petroleo e Engenharia Ltda to participate in tenders to build oil platforms.
