Petrobras Makes New Discovery in Barra Prospect
Petrobras announced that the presence of oil and gas accumulations in ultra deep waters in the Sergipe-Alagoas basin is confirmed, after the conclusion of the lined well formation test in the BM-SEAL-11 concession, located in Block SEAL-M-426.
The well 1-BRSA-851-SES (1-SES-158), known as Barra, is located at a water depth of 2,341 meters, 58 km off the coast of the state of Sergipe and 90 km from the city of Aracaju. The information obtained so far is enough to confirm the discovery of a new oil province in the Sergipe-Alagoas basin.
The discovery was confirmed through wireline logging and fluid sampling from a lined well formation test. Excellent porosity conditions were confirmed in the reservoirs located in depths between 5.050 and 5400. The oil sample indicated excellent quality, with API around 45° in the superior interval and 32° in the inferior interval.
The consortium to explore the SEAL-M-426 block, operated by Petrobras (60%) and IBV-Brasil (40%) will give continuity to the Minimum Exploratory Program, to be defined by the Brazilian Petroleum Agency (ANP).
Besides that, ANP has approved the Discovery Evaluation Plan sent by the consortium, designed to delimit the discovered accumulation.
