Nigeria Petroleum Resources Dept Overhaul Awaits Report

The planned reorganization of Nigeria's Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, won't take place until a government committee completes its report on oil and gas industry reforms, a source close to the department said Monday.
"The reorganization is still waiting for the final report from the committee," the source told Dow Jones Newswires.
President Olusegun Obsasanjo said Saturday that the department, which regulates the country's oil and gas industry, was being reorganized and strengthened partly to enable it to deal with the problem of sellers overcharging for petroleum products.
The committee is expected to recommend a restructuring of the industry and specify roles for institutions and departments, including the DPR, which recently took on 300 new staff to deal with the increased volume of work.
