Marathon Commences Drilling Offshore Norway
Marathon has spud exploratory well 25/10-11 on the Earb South prospect in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The well will target sandstones within the Draupne formation and the Hugin formation. The Earb South prospect, located about 9 miles (15 kilometers) west of the Balder field and 22 miles (35 kilometers) south of the Heimdal facilities, is estimated to contain gross unrisked prospective gas and condensate resources of 81 million barrel oil equivalents. The planned total depth of the well is 14,633 feet (4,460 meters). The Transocean Winner semisub is drilling the well, and the duration should take about 90 days. Marathon is the operator of the license with a 50% interest. The other licensees are Lundin (30%) and VNG Norway (20%).SubseaIQ provides focused, in-depth coverage of offshore field development activities around the world, with daily updates on hundreds of offshore fields and facilities.
