Sterling Primes Bit for Cladhan Drilling
Sterling Resources plans to resume drilling in the next few days on the Cladhan discovery in the UK sector of the North Sea. The Transocean Prospect semisub, currently being towed to the site, will drill at least one well and one sidetrack.
Sterling will drill further down dip looking for deeper oil in the structure to the east of the previous wells, followed by a sidetrack to an undrilled channel further south of the current well penetrations. If drilling is successful, the operator has an option for the semisub to drill a second sidetrack from the same well out into the fan system. Information gathered from this drilling campaign will assist planning of the field development conceptual design, which is already under way.
The Cladhan field is located on Blocks 210/29a and 210/30a in the UK sector of the North Sea in a water depth of 1,634 feet (498 meters). Sterling Energy, holding a 39.9% interest, operates Cladhan; Wintershall holds 33.5%; Encore holds 16.6%; and Dyas holds the remaining 10% interest.SubseaIQ provides focused, in-depth coverage of offshore field development activities around the world, with daily updates on hundreds of offshore fields and facilities.
