Lundin Drills Duster in North Sea

Lundin Petroleum failed to hit pay in exploratory well 16/7-9 on the Norall prospect, located in Block 16/7 in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The vertical well, targeting reservoirs of Jurassic to Triassic age, reached a total depth of nearly 8,743 feet (2,665 meters) in the Triassic Smith Bank formation.

The well proved the targeted reservoirs but did not encounter hydrocarbons and is being plugged and abandoned as a dry hole. The Transocean Winner semisub drilled the well. Norall is located in Production License 409 in a water depth of 256 feet (78 meters). Lundin Petroleum operates PL 409, holding a 70% interest. Partners on the license include Bayerngas Norge AS (20%), and Statoil ASA (10%).
