Offshore Safety Awards Finalists Announced

The finalists for this year’s Offshore Safety Awards, jointly organized by industry body Oil & Gas UK and Step Change in Safety, have been announced.

These finalists, outlined below, are scheduled to attend an awards ceremony at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on August 29, where they will pitch their safety initiative directly to attendees, who will get the chance to cast their vote and decide on the winners of this year’s awards.

This year’s awards program contains six categories, including safety leadership, workforce engagement, and innovation in safety. Representatives from several oil and gas companies have been announced on the 2018 finalist list.

The awards “celebrate the outstanding individuals and companies going the extra mile to ensure safe operations on the UK Continental Shelf,” according to a press release published on Oil & Gas UK’s website Monday.

“In the 30th year since the Piper Alpha disaster, discussions around safety come with a particular poignancy,” Matt Abraham, health, safety and environment director at Oil & Gas UK, said in an organization statement.

“These awards are an important part of ensuring we never lose focus on improving safety in the UKCS and we never become complacent,” he added.

Les Linklater, executive director at Step Change in Safety, said there was an “overwhelming” response to the call for entries.

“Our judging panel had a strong field to choose from and I’d like to extend my congratulations to all our finalists for being shortlisted, a fantastic achievement,” Linklater said in an organization statement.
