The strike on Norwegian offshore oil and gas rigs is going “very well”, according to Hilde-Marit Rysst, a union leader at SAFE.

“Several rigs are shutting down as we speak, and more to come,” Rysst told Rigzone.

Rysst confirmed that the following assets were currently shutdown:

  • Island Well Server
  • Deep Sea Stavanger
  • Transocean Spitsbergen
  • Petrojarl Knarr

The SAFE representative also confirmed that 669 members are currently on strike and said this number will escalate to 1,570 on Sunday at midnight.

“It will be almost a total shut-down of the drilling rigs in a week or so on the Norwegian shelf,” Rysst said.

Workers from Norwegian offshore oil and gas rigs went on strike yesterday in a dispute over wages.
