New UK PM Appoints New Energy Leader
Andrea Leadsom has been appointed Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy by Boris Johnson, the new UK Prime Minister.

Andrea Leadsom has been appointed Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy by Boris Johnson, the new UK Prime Minister.

In a video posted on the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s (DBEIS) twitter page, Leadsom said it was a “great honor” to be appointed. Leadsom replaces Greg Clark, who held the position from July 2016 to July 2019.

 

 

Leadsom was Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons from June 2017 to May 2019. She was elected as Conservative MP for South Northamptonshire in 2010. The secretary of state has overall responsibility for the DBEIS.

Boris Johnson became UK Prime Minister on July 24, succeeding Theresa May. He was previously foreign secretary from July 13, 2016, to July 9, 2018. Johnson was elected Conservative MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip in May 2015. Previously he was the MP for Henley from June 2001 to June 2008.
