NDA to Carry Out 'Deadly' Attacks in Next Few Days
The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has warned that it will carry out deadly attacks on Nigerian oil sector players in the next few days.
The latest round of attacks will target the deep sea operations of multinationals involved with the Bonga, Agbami, EA, Britania-U and Akpo assets, amongst others located across the deep waters of the Niger Delta region.
“As for the Egina FPSO, we are advising the operators to let it stay wherever it is right now as we are tracking its movement. We mean it when we say they (the oil installations) shall dance to the sound of the fury of the Niger Delta Avengers,” an NDA spokesperson said in an NDA statement published on the group’s website.
In 2016, NDA attacks on Nigeria’s energy infrastructure sent shockwaves throughout the region as oil production fell by almost 40 percent.
“Disruption to energy infrastructure in the Delta has tremendous repercussions for the economy as a whole and the shockwaves are being felt even beyond Nigeria’s borders,” Verisk Maplecroft Senior Africa Analyst Malte Liewerscheidt told Rigzone in June 2016.
