More Layoffs on the Way for Aker Solutions
Norwegian oil services firm will lay off staff at Agotnes yard.

Aker Solutions ASA, an oil services company based in Oslo, Norway, will be laying off some of its staff, the company confirmed in an email to Rigzone.

On Aug. 22, the company notified employees at its subsea services business at Agotnes, Norway of the need for temporary layoffs. The spokesperson cited a “continued challenging market situation” as the reason for the layoffs. The layoffs will be temporary and will affect about 150 subsea services employees.

In January 2017, Aker Solutions announced that it would reduce its workforce by shedding around 650 positions, most of them in Norway, the UK and India.

The company reported a strengthening of earnings for second quarter in its 2Q 2018 report, crediting an increase in orders.

“While the market remains very competitive, activity is picking up as lower breakeven costs and higher oil prices spur project sanctions,” Aker Solutions' CEO Luis Araujo, said in the report. “Our order intake in the quarter was almost double the same period a year earlier and we're seeing high tendering activity in our main markets.”
