Louisiana Firm Wants to Make Safety More Fashionable

Louisiana Firm Wants to Make Safety More Fashionable
Ill-fitting - and unsafe - flame-resistant clothing: another proverbial glass ceiling this woman-owned business seeks to shatter. IMAGE SOURCE: HauteWork

Rigzone: Males make up a disproportionate share of operations folks in oil and gas. Besides FR apparel, are there any other industrial product and service offerings for women that could represent golden opportunities for entrepreneurs such as yourself?

Glas: I can’t give away all my secrets! I will say that the company rebranding as HauteWork allows us to expand past just FR apparel and offer any industrial work apparel or uniforms for women. We want to be the feminine/fashionable version or Carhartt and some of these major work apparel brands that you see.

Rigzone: How’s the response been to your company’s take on FR apparel from women who work in an oil and gas operational capacity?

Glas: Extremely positive. Some of the quotes I have gotten: “Thank you!” “Finally someone paying attention to women!” “Yep. Love actually having a butt, legs and waistline.”

For all those nay sayers out thereI say HELLZ YEAHZ! Be a Curvy Woman, I need clothing made for short curvy figure. Men’s size doesn’t not fit all. Now give me a hidden zipper in the crotch and zippers from the waist down to the hips so I can use the restroom, tree, ditch, backfill, easier! If you want REAL MODELS, Pipeliner’s Local 798 have some REAL working women for you!

I agree with the others that this picture does not represent actual working women out here in the real world. Obviously this ad is geared toward men. Here is a group of hot skinny chicks with long hair that is not tied back, no safety glasses, or gloves. Yeah people, that's what we all look like!. The baby blue is thee dumbest color I've ever seen for workwear. Come on!

reflectives for night safety still FR

This is referring to the positive feedback "Yep. Love having a butt, legs and waistline". Why does this woman feel the need to show off her body on a rig? She needs to focus on doing her job. Just BEING a woman on a rig attracts attention from men. I'm concerned that stylish, figure flattering coveralls will only make this problem worse and increase cases of harassment in the field. When I worked in the field, I felt it was a good thing to have ill-fitting coveralls. The situation might have been worse otherwise.

I’ll be looking you up and stopping by! Get so tired of having to wear men’s FR’s! Totally don’t fit right!

Someone get those women safety glasses and gloves! Then tie their d**n hair back! They look like idiots. Other than that, I'd love to have coveralls that had room for my hips and a shorter torso so I don't have to hike them up every time I use stairs! "Fashionable", though? Come on, don't we have a hard enough time being taken seriously?

I work in the industry and I think this is a wonderful idea. I want to look and interested in investing because I think half the people in this business are willing to pay to get nice fitting garment for work

Do we really need “fashionable” safety wear for work??? This is utter stupidity

Happy to see a Pink Petro member and GRIT award winner being profiled again. Jamie we are behind you and all the women (corporate turned) entrepreneurs changing the culture and face of our industry!

I don't see much difference between those in the picture and all the usual coveralls out there. You want to make something good for women? Figure out how to make some where we don't have to get completely undressed to go to the bathroom! That is one of the main reasons I hate wearing coveralls. Most women I've talked to agree that its a big problem. Another thing. Make them COOLER! They're heavy and hot as hell!
