KBR Wins Saudi Arabia Debottlenecking Contract
The Saudi Aramco-Total joint venture SATORP has awarded KBR a contract to debottleneck Train 2 of its 440,000-barrel per day (bpd) refinery in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, KBR reported Monday.
“We value the partnership we have with SATORP which has been built on KBR’s strong delivery track record,” Jay Ibrahim, KBR’s president for Hydrocarbons – Energy Services, said in a written statement. “This award signifies SATORP’s trust in KBR to deliver this schedule-critical project to support the upcoming major refinery turnaround in 2020.”
KBR stated that the debottlenecking, slated to conclude in August 2020, should increase the original refinery’s throughput by 15 percent. The company also noted that it has named China-based Wison Engineering as its subcontractor on the project, located in the Eastern province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
“We have been impressed with Wison’s experience in executing similar sized debottlenecking projects in KSA, which have all been completed ahead of schedule but more importantly safely, with zero lost-time incidents,” Ibrahim stated.
According to the SATORP website, the facility began commercial operations in June 2014 and processes Arabian Heavy Crude Oil into liquefied petroleum gas, benzene, paraxylene, gasoline, jet fuel, diesel, propylene, coke and sulfur.
