KBR Wins Algeria Contract
Sonatrach and Cepsa have awarded KBR a contract tied to their RKR redevelopment in Algeria.

Sonatrach and Cepsa have awarded KBR, Inc. a contract to provide basic engineering design (BED) and front end engineering design (FEED) services for their Rhoude el Krouf Field (RKF) redevelopment in Algeria, KBR reported Wednesday

According to KBR, the RKF field – located southeast of the town of Hassim Messaoud in eastern Algeria – includes oil and gas central processing facilities with a gathering network and associated structures. The redevelopment will add another oil and gas treatment train to the existing facilities and represents part of Sonatrach and Cepsa’s efforts to help Algeria boost its oil and gas output, KBR added.

As this Jan. 2018 Rigzone article notes, the $1 billion RKF redevelopment aims to significantly increase the mature oilfield’s production. Moreover, the 25-year project will produce liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and should create up to 1,500 new jobs. Components of the RKF redevelopment include:

  • Drilling 30 new wells
  • Building new processing facilities capable of treating 24,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 10,000 barrels per day of LPG

“KBR is proud of its more than 45 year history in Algeria,” Jay Ibrahim, president of KBR’s Energy Solutions – Services unit, said in a written statement. “This project will demonstrate KBR’s ability to utilize its global resources to provide the full capabilities of engineering and FEED services.”

KBR will perform the BED and FEED work from its London and Chennai offices, the company noted.
