How Important is Executive Leadership to Oil, Gas Workers?
Diversity should also be a component of succession planning.
“Creating a steady pipeline of leaders, including ones with diverse backgrounds, who are ready to step into new roles can provide several benefits,” said Chronis. “Those benefits are higher-quality decisions around promotion and developmental investments; enhanced career development opportunities for emerging leaders (which can create more engagement and retention of top talent); stronger organizational culture due to an enhanced ability to ensure up-and-coming leaders embody the organization’s beliefs and values; and greater organizational stability and resilience (which can breed market confidence and drive shareholder value).”
Kathy Eberwein, CEO of energy talent placement consultancy The Global Edge, focuses on diversity and social responsibility in her company.
“We respond to client needs,” she told Rigzone. “We always put forth the candidates we think are the best candidates. If they happen to be female, that’s fantastic.”
Strides have been made in the oil and gas industry regarding women in executive positions, but there’s still more work to be done.
Eberwein, who’s also an engineer, said she is involved in several initiatives to elevate women in their technical expertise.
“We’re working with some governments globally and we’ve actually recently started an NGO specifically for this, but it’s a long-term plan to make sure that you continue to move that needle with how many women are in the executive roles,” she said.
Importance of Executive Leadership Among Regions
