Despite challenging market conditions, Sembcorp Marine reported Friday that it has delivered the Q7000 well intervention semi-submersible rig to Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc.

Jointly designed by Sembmarine and Helix, the Q7000 measures 307.1 feet (93.6 meters) in length and 200.5 feet (61.1 meters) in breadth and resembles the Q5000 the Singapore-based firm delivered to Helix in early 2015, Sembmarine noted in a written statement emailed to Rigzone. In addition, Sembmarine stated the semisub can perform various production enhancement operations as well as field development support, well cleanup and well decommissioning tasks such as tubing removal and sea floor clearance.

“We are very grateful to Helix for partnering with us to build the Q5000 and Q7000, particularly the latter project which was executed during a difficult time in the market,” stated Wong Weng Sun, Sembmarine’s president and CEO.

According to Sembmarine, the Q7000 integrates an International Maritime Organization-certified Class 3 dynamic positioning system and the Helix-designed Intervention Riser System. Also, the company stated the rig can execute well intervention and decommissioning operations in up to 9,842.5 feet (3,000 meters) of water – making it suitable for deepwater operations in regions such as the U.K. North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and offshore West Africa and Brazil.

Sembmarine added the new vessel is expected to begin its first project in January 2020, providing subsea services off the coast of West Africa. In an Aug. 5, 2019, written statement posted to its website, Helix noted that Q7000 will perform subsea workover and integrated well intervention services with a major client offshore Nigeria for an estimated minimum 80-day campaign.

“The delivery of the Q7000 demonstrates not only Sembcorp Marine’s proven ability to provide innovative design and construction solutions, but also our firm commitment to working with our customers to overcome challenges and complete projects smoothly,” concluded Sun. “We look forward to the possibility of collaborating with Helix again in the future.”
