Houston-based Helix Energy Solutions has secured a majority stake in Aberdeen-based Subsea Technologies Group Limited.

Helix Energy Solutions Group has acquired a majority stake in Aberdeen-based Subsea Technologies Group Limited (STL), Helix announced Thursday.

Helix, which has its headquarters in Houston, is an international offshore energy services company focusing on well intervention and robotics operations.

STL specializes in the design and manufacture of subsea pressure control equipment, including well intervention, well control and subsea control systems.

“This acquisition provides Helix with a significant opportunity to offer in-house engineering services, product development and systems engineering, whilst also enabling us to accelerate the development of new well intervention technologies and provide an enhanced product and service offering,” Helix executive vice president and COO Scotty Sparks said in a release.

STL’s CEO Drummond Lawson expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating it would represent opportunities for company growth.

STL will operate from Helix’s offices in Aberdeen, while Lawson and chief technology officer Dave McKay will continue in their current roles.

Further details around the terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
