Former Energy Minister Appointed OGA Chairman
The UK Business and Energy Secretary, Greg Clark, has appointed Tim Eggar as the new chair of the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA).
Eggar will take up his new position on March 11, replacing Frances Morris-Jones, who will complete her term as interim chair at the end of March.
Eggar was a member of the UK parliament from 1979 to 1997 and held the post of energy minister from 1992 to 1996. He is currently chair of MyCelx Technologies, a clean-water technology company for the energy sector.
"We welcome Tim as our new chairman and I very much look forward to his start with us in Aberdeen next week as we continue our close work with industry and government to deliver the significant value outlined in Vision 2035,” Andy Samuel, chief executive of the OGA, said in an organization statement.
“I would like to thank our interim chair Frances Morris-Jones for her support and dedication over the past year. Frances will resume her previous role on the OGA board as a non-executive director,” Samuel added.
Commenting on his new role, Eggar said, “I am delighted to have been appointed to chair the Oil and Gas Authority and look forward to working with the board, government and industry to maximize the value of this critical sector”.
The OGA’s role is to regulate, influence and promote the UK oil and gas industry in order to maximize the economic recovery of the UK’s oil and gas resources, according to the organization’s website. The OGA became an executive agency on April 1, 2015.
