Equinor Gets Green Light to Drill Norwegian Sea Well
Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSAN) has given its consent for Equinor to drill exploration well 6406/2-9 S, in block 6406/2, in the Norwegian Sea.
The well aims to investigate a prospect named ‘Ragnfrid Nord’, just south of the Kristin field in the central Norwegian Sea. Water depth at the site is 912 feet.
Drilling is scheduled to begin in early June and is estimated to last for 81 days, depending on whether or not a discovery is made. Well 6406/2-9 S will be drilled by the West Phoenix semi-submersible mobile drilling facility.
Earlier this month, PSAN granted its consent for A/S Norske Shell to drill well 34/5-2 S, in production license 373 S, in the North Sea.
The purpose of this well is to investigate a prospect named ‘Tyttebær’. Water depth at the site is 1,269 feet.
Drilling operations for well 34/5-2 S will begin between June and August and are expected to last for 92 days if hydrocarbons are proved, and 58 days if the well is dry. Drilling will be carried out using the Scarabeo 8 semi-submersible mobile drilling facility.
