Dominican Republic Kicks Off First-Ever Bid Round
The Dominican Republic launched its first-ever licensing round with a roadshow in Houston on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Dominican Republic is offering a combination of 14 onshore and offshore blocks.
They are:
- Cibao Basin – 6 onshore blocks
- Enriquillo Basin – 3 onshore blocks
- Azua Basin – 1 onshore block
- San Pedro Basin – 4 offshore blocks
Antonio Isa Conde, the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Energy and Mines, said there was interest and optimism about the country’s potential in oil and gas, noting that the Ministry was “receiving very good signals.”
The Dominican Republic first opened itself to natural gas and oil exploration in early 2018. At the time, the country hoped to draw interest from oil heavy hitters such as BP, plc and ExxonMobil Corp.
Exxon was among dozens of companies who attended the roadshow. The companies represented various regions, including the U.S., Canada, the UK, China, Ecuador and Europe.
The Dominican Republic’s licensing round closes in December 2019.
More information can be found on the Ministry’s website.
