Diamond Offshore Wins Contract Extension for Semisub
Diamond Offshore reported that it has secured a one-year extension for its Ocean Patriot semisub.

Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. reported Monday that it has secured a one-year contract extension for its Ocean Patriot semi-submersible rig.

Operator Apache Corp. has extended by 12 months its contract for Ocean Patriot in the U.K. North Sea, according to Diamond. The drilling contractor noted that it secured the extension during the fourth quarter of 2019. It did not specify the value of the contract extension but stated that it will add more than $50 million to its $620 million in backlog for 2019.

According to its latest fleet status report, Diamond stated that Ocean Patriot has been contracted to Apache since early June of 2018. Given the extension, the firm estimates the contract term will now run until early June of 2021.

In service since 1983, Ocean Patriot can drill to 20,000 feet (6,096 meters) and is designed to operate in water depths up to 3,000 feet (914 meters), notes Diamond’s specification sheet for the semisub.
