BP Extends Oman EPC Contract Awarded to Worley, STS Joint Venture

BP PLC has awarded a three-year contract extension for Block 61 (Khazzan and Ghazeer) in Oman to the Worley Ltd. and Special Technical Services LLC (STS) joint venture. The joint venture, known as Special Technical Services Worley Integrated Solutions (SWIS), will provide engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services to BP.
Worley said in a media release that the initial five-year EPC contract was awarded to SWIS in April 2018. It was further extended by BP in 2022 by an additional two years, it said.
The BP-operated Block 61 was developed in two stages, with Khazzan starting production in 2017 and Ghazeer starting production in 2020. According to BP, Khazzan and Ghazeer produce 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas a day and more than 60,000 barrels a day of associated condensate and hold an estimated 10.5 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas resources.
“The services include ongoing field development of BP’s Block 61 gas field in Oman as well as brownfield modifications of operational assets including the central processing facility”, Worley said. The gas from Block 61 is pumped into Oman’s national gas grid for domestic consumption. It also serves as feedstock for Oman Liquefied Natural Gas LLC, the entity that operates three natural gas liquefaction trains at its site in Qalhat near Sur, with a nameplate capacity of 10.4 million tonnes per annum.
Under the new three-year extension, Worley will continue to lead the work from its Oman office, Worley said.
“SWIS has been working extensively with BP to improve all aspects of operational efficiency, and this award confirms the success of this continuing journey”, Chris Ashton, Chief Executive Officer of Worley, said.
