Alve Life Extension Gets PSAN Consent
Petroleum Safety Authority Norway gives Equinor consent to use the facilities on the Alve field beyond their original operating life.

Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSAN) has revealed that it has given Equinor consent to use the facilities on the Alve field beyond their original operating life.

Consent for operation of the Alve field was due to expire on December 31, 2021, PSAN noted. The organization has now granted consent for the use of the facilities on the Alve field until December 31, 2036.

Equinor applied for consent to extend the operating life of the facilities on the field in order to recover the remaining reserves from the asset, PSAN highlighted.

The Norwegian Sea Alve gas and condensate field was discovered in 1990 and came on stream in March 2009. Water depth in the area is 1,213 feet.

Last month, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) revealed that it had granted Equinor consent to use the facilities on the Tordis and Vigdis fields until December 31, 2036, and December 31, 2040, respectively. Consents were due to expire at Tordis in December 2019 and at Vigdis in March 2024.

Earlier this year, the NPD gave the go ahead for Equinor to use the C platform on the Gullfaks field in the North Sea until June 30, 2036. Gullfaks C was installed in May 1989 and started producing in January 1990. The design lifetime was 30 years.
