Aker BP, TGS Partner for Digital Operations in Yggdrasil
Energy and data intelligence firm TGS ASA is partnering with Aker BP to digitalize operations in the Yggdrasil oil and gas area in the North Sea.
Oslo, Norway-based TGS said in a news release that it signed an agreement with Aker BP that “builds on the ongoing collaboration between the two companies and focuses on improving field operations using advanced technology”.
Aker BP will integrate TGS’ Prediktor Data Gateway into its digital ecosystem for Yggdrasil as a process data server. Through Yggdrasil, Aker BP is "setting a new standard in the way to operate a field, with remotely controlled operations, unmanned production platforms, new technology and data-driven decisions and work processes," according to the release.
Prediktor Data Gateway will play an important role in optimizing work processes and enhancing operational efficiency through real-time, high-quality, reliable data, TGS said.
"We are excited to deepen our relationship with Aker BP through this strategic partnership. The Prediktor Data Gateway offers unique flexibility and efficiency, representing a new frontier in field operations. We look forward to its impact on the Yggdrasil area," Carel Hooijkaas, EVP of New Energy Solutions at TGS, said. "This collaboration reflects our commitment to driving innovation in the energy sector and supporting our partners in achieving operational excellence”.
“The partnership underscores the critical role of digital innovation in optimizing asset operations. With the Prediktor Data Gateway, Aker BP can achieve greater control, leveraging real-time data from OT systems through an OPC-UA standard information model for improved decision-making,” Hooijkaas added.
Meanwhile, TGS announced that its data solution contributed to the recent oil and gas discovery offshore Peninsular Malaysia by Petroliam Nasional Bhd. (Petronas).
Petronas made a notable discovery in Malaysia with the Bekok Deep-1 oil and gas exploration project in May, the state-owned company said. The asset “stands out due to its promising well testing results, which demonstrate a strong hydrocarbon flow rate,” the company noted.
The discovery highlights substantial hydrocarbon potential in this new play, “marking a significant milestone in Peninsular Malaysia’s energy sector over the past decade,” Petronas said.
The well yielded promising results from shallow to deep reservoirs through Group I, L and M, TGS said in a separate news release. The well test yielded an excellent hydrocarbon flow rate in the Group I formation and revealed significant hydrocarbon potential in a new play within the Malay Basin.
David Hajovsky, EVP of Multi-Client at TGS, said, “We are pleased by the success of the Bekok Deep-1 exploration well, which was initially identified using vintage seismic data. This discovery highlights the significant hydrocarbon potentials in Peninsular Malaysia and the critical role of advanced seismic imaging technology in unlocking these exploration opportunities. We are proud to have contributed to this accomplishment and remain dedicated to providing our clients with innovative data solutions that advance the future of energy exploration”.
The TGS Peninsular Malaysia 3D Mega Merge project involves the reprocessing of field data and merging of over 60 legacy surveys, providing a seamless dataset covering approximately 15,444 square miles (40,000 square kilometers). The project integrates modern processing techniques to remove noise and multiple contaminations, along with the latest velocity model building technologies (FWI, Q-tomography, well-calibration and anisotropy), the company stated.
